U.S. stocks lower at close of trade; Dow Jones Industrial Average down 0.22%

Investing.com – U.S. stocks were lower after the close on Wednesday, as losses in the , and sectors led shares lower.

At the close in NYSE, the declined 0.22%, while the index fell 0.94%, and the index declined 1.53%.

The best performers of the session on the were Amgen Inc (NASDAQ:), which rose 2.71% or 7.15 points to trade at 271.46 at the close. Meanwhile, UnitedHealth Group Incorporated (NYSE:) added 2.41% or 11.60 points to end at 492.26 and International Business Machines (NYSE:) was up 2.28% or 3.34 points to 149.86 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were Intel Corporation (NASDAQ:), which fell 4.54% or 1.65 points to trade at 34.69 at the close. Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:) declined 2.40% or 7.88 points to end at 320.77 and Apple Inc (NASDAQ:) was down 2.00% or 3.59 points to 175.49.

The top performers on the S&P 500 were Textron Inc (NYSE:) which rose 4.94% to 79.38, AutoZone Inc (NYSE:) which was up 4.39% to settle at 2,583.83 and Western Digital Corporation (NASDAQ:) which gained 3.94% to close at 45.65.

The worst performers were Zebra Technologies Corporation (NASDAQ:) which was down 6.48% to 235.83 in late trade, The Mosaic Company (NYSE:) which lost 5.84% to settle at 37.06 and Intel Corporation (NASDAQ:) which was down 4.54% to 34.69 at the close.

The top performers on the NASDAQ Composite were Digital Transformation Opportunities Corp (NASDAQ:) which rose 89.56% to 25.97, MSP Recovery Inc (NASDAQ:) which was up 64.14% to settle at 0.15 and Fresh Tracks Therapeutics Inc (NASDAQ:) which gained 54.48% to close at 0.90.

The worst performers were Seelos Therapeutics Inc (NASDAQ:) which was down 69.49% to 0.31 in late trade, ARS Pharmaceuticals Inc (NASDAQ:) which lost 55.79% to settle at 2.92 and Molekule Group Inc (NASDAQ:) which was down 42.87% to 0.42 at the close.

Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the New York Stock Exchange by 1718 to 1208 and 78 ended unchanged; on the Nasdaq Stock Exchange, 2324 fell and 1154 advanced, while 131 ended unchanged.

Shares in Seelos Therapeutics Inc (NASDAQ:) fell to all time lows; down 69.49% or 0.69 to 0.31. Shares in ARS Pharmaceuticals Inc (NASDAQ:) fell to 52-week lows; falling 55.79% or 3.68 to 2.92. Shares in Molekule Group Inc (NASDAQ:) fell to all time lows; losing 42.87% or 0.32 to 0.42.

Gold Futures for December delivery was down 0.06% or 1.25 to $1,952.45 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in November fell 1.32% or 1.19 to hit $89.29 a barrel, while the November Brent oil contract fell 1.24% or 1.17 to trade at $93.17 a barrel.

EUR/USD was unchanged 0.14% to 1.07, while USD/JPY rose 0.26% to 148.25.

The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.18% at 105.03.
